Episode 12 – Why comparing yourself to others in your industry & on social media can ruin your progress, and how to avoid this common mistake

Things aren’t always as perfect as they seem on Instagram, and Dr. Yazdan is here to remind us of that.  On this episode of The Social Dentist, Dr. Desiree Yazdan helps us overcome the obstacle of comparisons. It is easy to get caught up in the “comparison game” and Dr. Yazdan points out why this is not helpful to our business.

Instead of comparing your following and metrics to another person in your industry, it will be more beneficial to focus on your own social media following.  Dr. Yazdan points out that likes don’t equate to paying bills; she wants you to remember that just because someone has a large following and a lot of likes doesn’t mean they are targeting the right type of person to support their business.

Dr Yazdan shares a personal anecdote about how harmful comparisons can be.  She urges us to focus on our following and to keep perspective on what makes you and what your offer unique.  Dr. Yazdan always brings us back to creating content specifically for our ideal patient.

She doesn’t just tell us not to compare, Dr. Yazdan gives us tools to help us overcome comparing.  She gives specific suggestions for sparking inspiration to create compelling content for your following.  Dr. Yazdan also tells us what she does when she starts to compare herself to colleagues and how to draw inspiration from other industry leaders.  Additionally, Dr. Yazdan put together a downloadable weekly content planning checklist that you can download to help you map out your goals and stay on track with your postings.
