Everybody wants to know how to grow on social media, how to get more followers, how to get more business, and more patients from the platforms. Well, I’ve got news for you…the answer to all your questions is to be social and to create more social media engagement on your page! ?SOCIAL media is here so you can… duh… be SOCIAL!?
When it comes to social media engagement, being active and actually engaging with the people that follow you is a very important piece to making social media work for you and your business. To be honest, if you?re not going to spend time engaging on the social media platforms that you’re active on then you may as well not be using them to market your business.?
This is especially true if you’re a healthcare professional. ?You’re likely not selling a product on social media that’s $5-$10. ?You’re marketing your business, where you have high ticket items. ?And the only way people are going to be signing up for treatment with you is if they know, like, and trust you… and if they feel connected to you. ?And the only way to get people to feel connected to you is to actually engage with them, one-on-one. ?Which means, you need a social media engagement plan!
You have to have a social media engagement strategy for social media to work for your business. And this goes for all social media platforms from Instagram to Twitter to Facebook and even Pinterest. Social media is about being social and not just sharing your content and basically having a one-sided conversation with people. ?It’s the 2 way conversation that’s really going to make the platforms work for you!
You know, I think the main reason a lot of people aren?t as social on social media is that they think that it takes hours each day to truly make an impact and it doesn?t. You don?t have to spend hours commenting, liking, and all of the above on social media every day to actually get results from engaging on social media. You really just need to have a clear social media engagement strategy, a timeframe, and a goal that you?re wanting to achieve.
To help make being more social on social media a lot simpler for you, I?m going to share with you exactly what to do on social media every day to be a lot more social and engaged with your audience… and you only have to spend 15-minutes per day. This daily engagement strategy can be used for whichever platform you?re engaged on the most. For the sake of this example, I?m going to use Instagram.

5-Minutes: Finding & Engaging with New Followers
The first thing that you want to do is engage with new followers. It?s important for you to make sure that you?re getting your business in front of new followers and potential ideal patients. Go through the different hashtags that you use and accounts that your ideal patients follow and engage with the people who are engaging with them. The best way to do this on Instagram, in particular, is to comment on their posts and like them. In fact, this can be used across any platform. And remember that this doesn’t have to be long novels. You just need to add value and get your business visible in front of the people who could possibly use you.
How do you add value? Here’s an example. ?Let’s say you are a dermatologist and you find your potential patient posting a photo of herself with her 2 children enjoying a sunny day at the beach in Cabo. ?Instead of writing “cute pic” or “enjoy” consider writing something like, “Beautiful family photo. ?Make sure to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours to so you and your children have sun protection all day long.” ?Or if you sell essential oils, and you find a post of someone who says they are stressed out, you could write a comment saying something like, “Did you know that lavender oils help reduce stress? Try rubbing a drop on each temple and see if it helps!”
Do you see where I’m going with these?
8-Minutes: Engaging with Existing Followers
The next thing that you want to do is to engage with your existing followers. It?s important for you to make sure that you?re taking care of the people who have already engaged with you and chosen to follow you. One thing that I see people do way too much is to get so focused on adding more people to their follower’s list and not taking care of the people who are already following them on whichever platform they?re active on.
If you have followers, even if it’s 10 followers, then that’s your audience. ?I say this all the time and I will say it again. ?Your follower count doesn’t matter. ?It’s how your followers engage with you that matters. ?If those 10 followers you have all decided to become active patients in your office, that’s 10 people that would bring money into your office! So if you focus on taking care of the followers you already have, you will have more of a chance of converting those followers to patients, and you will even attract new people to your account!

2-Minutes: Checking Your Analytics
The final thing that you want to do is to check your analytics. I know that you?re thinking ?Desiree, what does this have to do with being more social?? Well, the answer is a lot. Your analytics will tell you where your followers are coming from, when they?re online the most, and which pieces of your content they?re resonating with the most. So, you want to make sure that you?re spending some time digging through this so that you?re showing up at the right time.
Of course, there is a lot more that you can do on social media to be engaging on social media but if you?re really stretched for time, this will help you get you started. As you find yourself having more time and getting more results, you can add-on more to your social media engagement strategy. Also, notice that I didn?t include checking your messages and things like that as I find that we do that naturally throughout the day anyway. But, if you need to, make sure to add that into your daily social media engagement plan as well.
