Top Four Cosmetic Dental Treatments in Newport Beach
When you work with a great Newport Beach cosmetic dentist like Dr. Yazdan, you get the perks of choosing from a variety of different techniques and treatments to help you achieve the smile you’re looking for. Knowing what options are available can help you get the best results for the best price, in a time frame that fits your lifestyle!
If you think there’s only one way to get gorgeous, straight teeth, then it’s time to ask our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist about these amazing four options:
Dental Veneers (Traditional and Same Day)
For that “go big or go home” smile makeover, dental veneers are a must have. But did you know that there are different types of veneers you can request? Our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist might recommend one of two options: traditional porcelain, or same-day veneers.
With porcelain veneers, the material is as durable and aesthetic as possible. We tend to use them in sets of six or more to bond across your top front teeth (the ones in your “smile zone”). The process takes about two appointments to complete, and each of the veneers is hand designed by a ceramist. Once they’re bonded in place, it looks like you have a totally new smile.
Same-day veneers are a little different. Instead of being made out of porcelain, they’re shaped chairside out of composite (like white fillings.) This gives you the option of quickly covering up a tooth with surface flaws, such as a stain or chip in the enamel. That way when you smile, you don’t have one tooth standing out from the rest. Instead, it looks uniform and blends in with the others. The downside to composite veneers is that they’re not as durable as porcelain and the material is a bit more opaque. For that reason, Dr. Yazdan only recommends them when there’s one or two teeth that need attention, rather than several at once.
Fast Teeth Whitening
It’s never been a secret that professional teeth bleaching systems get your smile brighter than over the counter products. But if our custom take-home whitening system isn’t quick enough for your needs — say, you have a last-minute job interview or blind date that popped up — you always have the option of doing a same day whitening treatment.
With an in-house bleaching session, our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist applies a concentrated whitening gel to your teeth and then accelerates the stain release/oxidation process using a special light. Then we rinse away the gel and repeat the process another few times until we get your tooth enamel as bright as possible.
After you complete a same-day whitening session, your teeth are just as bright as what you would see with a take-home system, but you can still use custom trays to continue whitening or touch up your results as needed.
As a general rule, our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist recommends whitening your teeth before getting any other type of cosmetic dentistry treatment. Why? Because Dr. Yazdan wants to match new restorations (like porcelain crowns or white fillings) to the color of your teeth. Since those materials can’t be bleached out later on, they would have to be changed out to get them to match a whiter smile. Starting out with bright enamel from the get-go is the better alternative.
Gum Recontouring (“Gummy Smile” Treatments)
Excessive gingiva (gums) can make your teeth look short. When you smile, you might even see more gums than you do teeth. Having a gummy smile gives the illusion that your mouth isn’t healthy or that your teeth aren’t attractive, when in reality everything is just fine.
To correct this aesthetic concern, our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist can use a gentle laser to help adjust and reshape your gum tissues. In just one appointment, the gums can be recontoured so that a larger amount of tooth enamel is exposed, giving you fuller looking teeth.
Gum recontouring is frequently combined with other cosmetic dentistry treatments, including…
Dental Bonding and Tooth Contouring
Sometimes, our teeth are just naturally uneven. The biting edges don’t necessarily line up with the neighbors, making your teeth look misshaped or as if the size is irregular. In reality, your teeth are completely healthy! They might even be perfectly straight. That’s where our Newport Beach cosmetic dentist comes in. Dr. Yazdan can perform conservative tooth contouring and bonding to help smooth out, build up, or even out areas so that your smile’s shape seems to flow in a smooth, even line from one side of your mouth to the other. Bonding works great for small gaps or chipped teeth, too!
The best part about bonding and contouring is that it’s comfortable, affordable, and fast. Numbing usually isn’t even needed.
