Porcelain Veneers 101

Porcelain Veneers 101

This video gives you more information about porcelain veneers, which is one of my favorite procedures to do in the office.

Porcelain veneers are a thin shell of porcelain that is custom made to fit over teeth, providing a natural attractive look. They can be used to fix chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down, uneven, or even abnormally spaced teeth. The great thing about dental veneers is that they don’t require any special care, so you should continue to floss, brush, and rinse with mouthwash regularly.

Another thing I love about porcelain veneers is that they’re actually very conservative when you compare them to crowns. Your natural teeth remained largely intact with only a minimal amount of tooth structure being removed. For teeth that resists whitening, veneers can make even the darkest teeth appear bright and white. There’s a couple steps that are required for a veneer treatment plan to be executed properly.

The first step involves to your active participation. At your first appointment, your teeth will be examined, and we will determine if dental veneers are the appropriate treatment for you. One of the greatest things that I offer is that you can have a wax-up created. So, what we do is take molds of your mouth, and the lab will fabricate a wax model of what the end result will look like. So, you can actually try that in and see what the end result will look like before you even get started.

At your next appointment, your teeth will be prepared for the veneers. So, what happens is we polish down your teeth just a little bit, and we take molds for the lab and then we fabricate temporaries with the same template that we used for your wax-up.

So, then what happens is you’ll wear the temporaries for about two weeks, which is a actually really important phase because in this phase you can communicate with me if you want them a little shorter, a little longer, a little rounder, a little more square. It’s totally up to you. These are personal preferences that you can choose. If you can’t choose, that’s what I’m here for, but if you have a preference, I definitely want to know.

After the two week period, you’ll come in, we’ll take off the temporary, and we’ll actually try and your permanent restorations. If at that point they look amazing, and you’re happy with them, and I’m happy with them, then we’ll go ahead and put them in.

If you want any changes made, it’s not a problem. We put the temporaries back on, we send the case back to the lab, and we’ll have you come back in just a few days later so that we can permanently put it in your teeth. The whole point is that you are so involved in this process that you actually get to make sure you love your teeth before we permanently put them in.

The reason I love this procedure so much is that it makes such a big difference. One of the things that I’ve found is that if you actually give someone a beautiful smile, they’ll take better care of it.

I hope this video gave you a lot more information on porcelain veneers.
