I’m Dr. Yazdan, and in this video I’m going to tell you a little bit about dental implants. A dental implant is a titanium post that acts much like the root structure of a natural tooth. It’s surgically positioned into your jawbone, underneath your gum line, and allows a tooth to be placed over it. What’s great about implants is that they don’t come loose like a denture can. Dental implants are one of the most ideal treatments for missing teeth.
This is an example of what a dental implant would look like (see video). So this would actually get placed into your jawbone, underneath your gum tissue, like this. And then you’ll have a second part that’s called an abutment that’s custom-made to fit inside the implant and will actually stick outside of your gum tissue. Then your dentist will fabricate a beautiful crown that goes over it, and it’s going to act like a natural tooth and replace the missing tooth in that area.
