If you, or someone you know, is experiencing issues with bad breath one of the causes could be that you?re not cleaning your tongue properly. And while there are definitely other causes of bad breath, this is usually going to be a great place for you to start when it comes to tackling the issue. Let’s talk about the proper way to clean your tongue!
Properly cleaning your tongue is more than just giving a quick swipe with your toothbrush. You have to get more intentional about giving your tongue a good cleaning after you brush your teeth. It?s time to make it a priority rather than just a quick afterthought.
Here are some tips to help you with cleaning your tongue properly:
1: Use A Tongue Scraper
A tongue scraper helps you to get all of the build up off of your tongue the easy way. Using a toothbrush can be hard for most people and make the experience unpleasant. When you use a tongue scraper it?s flatter and typically smaller, making it easier for you to get as far back as you need to go to clean your tongue. You can pick one up at your local drugstore or even Amazon. But, it?s a great investment to make for your oral health. Make sure that you?re replacing your scraper just as often as you do your toothbrush.
2: Drink Lots of Water
One of the easiest tips is to drink a lot of water during the day to help get rid of any build up. Water helps do so many things for your mouth and overall health so drink a lot of it. If you struggle with drinking water try getting a jug that?s a comfortable size for you and sipping on it throughout the day. Keep one with you at work and during your commute and drink up. Another thing that I do is anytime I think about the fact that I should be drinking water or I?m thirsty, I take a sip of my water. Doing this has really helped increase my water intake throughout the day. If you try this method, come back and tell me what you think!
3: Use A Mouthwash
My final tip would be to make sure that you?re using a good mouthwash that can help get rid of any bacteria that you may leave behind after brushing and cleaning your tongue. Bacteria can grow rather quickly and it?s a big reason why you?ll have build up on your tongue, which can lead to bad breath. Using a mouthwash will help you combat the bacteria and build up beyond just brushing.
There you have it! These are my three tips to cleaning your tongue properly and I hope you?ll give them a go. So, go ahead and head to your local drugstore and grab a tongue scraper, water bottle, and mouthwash, and you?ll be well on your way to having a cleaner tongue and increasing your oral health overall.?
