My name is Dr. Desiree Yazdan. I’m a cosmetic dentist in Newport Beach. In this video I want to share some tips with you, tips about how to prevent sensitive teeth after whitening treatments done in a dental office.

The first thing to do if you’re worried about how to prevent sensitive teeth after whitening?is going to be that if you know you have an appointment to get your teeth whitened, try to brush and rinse with a desensitizing toothpaste and a desensitizing mouthwash. There’s a lot out there on the market. Something like Sensodyne is great, or look for a toothpaste or a mouthwash that has an extra amount of fluoride in it.

Okay, so after you have the whitening if you still have a little bit of sensitivity, it’s okay. What you can do is make sure to avoid things that are really, really hot or really, really cold. Also avoid things that are really acidic like pineapples and oranges. These things will irritate your teeth more. I tell all my patients to make sure to avoid these things after they’ve had their teeth whitened. ?Avoiding these types of foods/drinks is one way to combat your fear of?how to prevent sensitive teeth after whitening.

If you’re still having sensitivity, that’s okay. If you’re able to take Advil, you can take two to three Advil and that should help you get through the sensitivity. It’s also really important that you communicate any sensitivity or pain you may be experiencing with your dentist. Don’t forget that.
