5 Ways to Make Your Teeth Look Straighter

Misaligned, crooked, or crowded teeth can detract from your self-confidence. They also make your smile look unhealthier than it really is. Fortunately, you have several options to choose from if you want your smile to look straighter. Some offer immediate results, while others take a little more time.

  1. Invisalign

The best way to enjoy a straighter smile is by physically aligning your teeth with orthodontic appliances. But if you’re like most adults, you probably want a more discreet option than traditional braces. That’s exactly what Invisalign is for.

Newport Beach Invisalign uses pairs of clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. All you do is wear them for the prescribed length of time and change them out as directed. Usually that’s 20-22 hours a day, giving you plenty of time to take them out during meals or when you need to brush and floss.

Every two weeks you’ll move to the next pair of aligners in your series. When you do, you’ll feel gentle pressure nudging your teeth into the desired position.

Little by little, your smile straightens before your very eyes. No brackets or wires are necessary! Best of all, you won’t need as many or as long of appointments as you would with traditional braces.

  1. Composite Bonding

Dental bonding is a fast and efficient way to cover small flaws in teeth. If you have a tiny gap, chipped area, or crooked tooth, bonding may be an option.

Like white fillings, bonding is shaped onto the enamel and blends in with the color of your natural smile. It takes only a few minutes to shape and cure it to the tooth, providing immediate results that very same day.

Most areas of composite bonding can last for several years before needing to be updated. If you plan on whitening, we recommend doing so before your bonding procedure, so that we can match the composite as closely as possible.

Dr. Yazdan can easily pair bonding with other cosmetic treatments, such as whitening or crowns. Your transformation will take a tooth-by-tooth approach as we plan what’s best for your smile as a whole. Sometimes, it’s something as simple as covering one specific flaw in an individual tooth!

  1. Dental Veneers

Sometimes called “instant braces”, dental veneers immediately mask the natural teeth behind them, making your smile look dramatically straighter.

Veneers are porcelain shells that we bond to the front of several teeth in your smile. Usually, it’s the 6-8 upper front teeth, depending on how wide your smile is. Since Dr. Yazdan can adjust the shape of each veneer beforehand, we can have them crafted in a way that takes crooked teeth and makes them appear straighter (no braces required.)

Porcelain veneers can also be used to adjust the size and shape of your teeth. If you have a tooth that’s a bit narrow (creating gaps between teeth) or too short, the veneer fills in those area to help your tooth appear correctly shaped. We take your individual preferences into consideration as we plan the contour and color of each unique veneer.

A complete dental veneers case will require a few different appointments as we plan, craft, and place your final restorations.

  1. Ceramic Crowns

Dental crowns (“caps”) are perfect for restoring teeth with severely worn, chipped, or misshaped enamel. If you have a tooth that appears irregular or crooked because of existing damage, a crown may be your best solution.

Crowns cover the entire tooth as a whole, all the way up to the edges of your gum tissues. Dr. Yazdan has each crown crafted to mirror the shade and shape of the teeth on either side, so that your tooth looks like it’s a natural part of your smile.

Crowns can also be placed on top of dental implants if you’re replacing a missing tooth.

Since every crown is custom designed in a lab, we can make your tooth look straighter. The end results will appear more symmetrical and smoother from one tooth to the other, simply by adjusting one individual tooth.

  1. Address Discoloration and Stains

Shadows and staining in your teeth can make them look crooked, even if they aren’t. Maybe you have areas with dark stain or white spots, which stand out more from the tooth around them.

When light hits your teeth from a certain angle, those points in your enamel will make it look like teeth are rotated or tilted.

To address these issues, we can apply specific cosmetic treatments to erase discoloration. For instance, professional teeth whitening, ICON white spot treatment, or composite bonding can all offer dramatic results.
